The Class Game, Mary Casey: Conflict Cluster 2017, New GCSE English Literature (Edexcel)

An in-depth exploration of The Class Game by Mary Casey* including engaging teaching of content, writer's methods and exploration of the influence of the poet's context. This lesson provides group opportunities guiding pupils development of AO1, AO2 and AO3 literature, and specifically, poetry skills. Including animated, complete annotation of the poem, poem response activities (differentiated), discussion points, engaging videos and images with suggested further development opportunities for indepedent engagement with the poem and the issues and ideas dealt with. Strong AO3, contextual influences, focus using a range of clips and images from famous plays and comedies such as 'Our Day Out' by Willy Russell to ensure a deep understanding of the writer's context and the concept of social class is achieved before reading the poem. This is also reinforced post-reading, annotation and analysis using similar methods such as a recording of a dramatisation of 'Unrelated Incidents' by Tom Leonard and various discussion and response activities. Additionally, This extensive unit is perfect to enrich pupils understanding and study of 'An Inspector Calls' in preparation for the modern texts component of the NEW GCSE ENGLISH LITERATURE COURSE. *poem taken from the Edexcel Anthology for GCSE English Literature (first examination 2017.) GCSE English Enrichment! Early Modern English: An Analysis of The King James Bible.

GCSE English Enrichment! Early Modern English: An Analysis of The King James Bible.

(0)
A concise unit (1-2 lessons) which explores the evolution and development of the English Language from its early modern stages through to the modern day. Focussing on an extract from the King James Bible, as well as recalling pupils existing understanding of Shakespeare's use of language during the same early-modern period, this unit allows pupils to explore and identify the use of the English Language during this stage in its development. The apt historical timing of these two famous uses of the English Language, which encapsulate it as it was within this crucial developmental period, is used to challenge pupils to draw comparisons between the language of the King James Bible and Shakespeare's plays as well as considering how and why the language has continued to develop into the modern day. Furthermore, extension opportunities encourage pupils to consider the continuing influences of technology (such as social media) on the development of the English Language and to form an opinion about these developments. https://www.facebook.com/createdlive/ https://twitter.com/creatEDlive
